St. Mark’s is a United Methodist Church that began in December 1953 to provide a place of worship, spiritual growth, and outreach in Fairfield.
Begun as a house church of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, it took only two years to build the first church building. Worship was held in what is now known as the Fellowship Hall, and Sunday School classes met in the parsonage and in the basement furnace room (yep, it was kind of dank!)
Within ten years, our A-frame sanctuary was built. The Narthex was expanded to provide a more inviting entrance into the sanctuary.
In 1968, the Evangelical United Brethren Church merged with the Methodist Church, and we became St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
Over the years, an Education Wing was added to provide space for nursery and classes for all ages. These projects expanded our ability to help people grow into the people God wants us to be.
