Hanging On in an Upside-Down World

Many feel the same: our world today is in serious trouble. Marriages and families are disintegrating. People are barely getting by. Life seems to be blocked repeatedly by obstacles and detours and troubles. It’s as if the earth itself seems to be groaning and shifting for the strain. Are you feeling that way?

Believe it or not, the world seemed to turn upside down when the resurrected Jesus appeared to the disciples. Their understanding of everything: death, their new role, their new mission; all seems quite overwhelming.

During May and June, we will go through a message series entitled “Hanging On in an Upside-Down World.” Through looking at the appearances of Jesus after Easter, we can learn how to handle the issues, interruptions and complications of life.

We hope you will join us.

"THEN CAME THE MORNING"
by Bill and Gloria Gaither

"Then Came the Morning" is a statement about each of our lives before and after we are confronted with the Living Lord. This is not just a collection of songs but a personal account of the struggle to believe. Two disciples tell of the days they spent with Jesus, what they saw and experienced. When Christ's message consumes them, they want to share the news of the Unshakable Kingdom Christ has come to build.

I hope you enjoy this wonderful and powerful Easter message this morning. May this cantata be a perfect beginning to preparing your heart for days leading up to Easter.

Easter Brings Hope

There are times in life when we look at our current circumstances and see nothing but despair, discouragement, uncertainty. We wonder if tomorrow will, or can be, any better.

Undoubtedly, the disciples of Jesus wondered this after their Master was crucified on a cross and buried in a borrowed. They probably thought, “Could it get any worse than this?”

Then, as the sun rose on Sunday morning, news came that brought hope. Jesus was alive.

Jesus always brings hope. So during Lent, we looked at the passages and people from the Gospel of John who met Jesus and found hope.

Matters of the Heart

Love is in the air! Valentine’s Day has become a special holiday for celebrating love and affection by presenting flowers, offering candy, and sending greeting cards. Originally, the greeting cards were hand-written and personal, but in the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards.

Of course, those who study the Bible know that love comes from God (1 John 4:7). In fact, this chapter from 1 John might be called “The ‘Second’ Love Chapter”, in that it says so much about God’s love and our response to it.

During the first two weeks of February, we are going to explore love from God’s perspective with a short series called “Matters of the Heart.”

Grow

As we begin a new year, we tend to look back on the one that has just past and wonder whether it was a good year or not. We might look at our personal development, our physical wellness, our family relationships, our financial outlook… the list depends upon our individual perspectives and inclinations.

What if we also looked at our relationship with God and asked, “Am I closer to God today than I was a year ago? Have I grown in wisdom and knowledge of His Son Jesus Christ? Am I striving towards perfection and sanctification (an original question asked weekly by persons known as Methodists)?

During January, we will study how we can “Grow” in several areas of our Christian life. Come join us.

January 2      “Grow in Love with God”
January 9      “Grow in Understanding of the Word”
January 16    “Grow in Living the Faith”
January 23    “Grow in Influence”
