Missions

One of our purposes is Serve Our Community. We take this very seriously.

Jesus said His mission was “…to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” (Luke 4:18-19, NLT) And if that was His mission on Earth, we feel it should be our mission as well.

To help us fulfill our purpose, we journey through a process of:

  • Seeing through the eyes and feeling through heart of God for people all around us.
  • Finding ways to financial support mission projects locally, nationally, and internationally
  • Endeavor to become engage in mission – wherever God leads.

Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. Sports Illustrated columnist Rick Reilly challenged his readers to donate $10 for the purchase of an anti-malaria bed net, and thousands of people have joined the campaign. The people of The United Methodist Church, along with Sports Illustrated, NBA Cares, the United Nations Foundation and several other groups, are raising funds to purchase bed nets to end malaria. You can join the cause and contribute money for bed nets that will keep children and families safe.

"Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink? And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?" Then the King will say, "I'm telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me — you did it to me." (Matthew 25:37-40, The Message)

Grow Spiritually on a Mission Trip

A Barna Group study reveals, not surprisingly, that 75% of mission trip-goers report that the experience changed their life in some way. Only 25% of those who have participated in such a trip said it was "just an experience." The most common areas of personal growth include becoming more aware of other people's struggles (5%); learning more about poverty, justice or the world (16%); increasing compassion (11%); deepening or enriching their faith (9%); broadening their spiritual understanding (9%); and boosting their financial generosity (5%). Others mentioned it helped them to feel more fulfilled, become more grateful, develop new friends and pray more.
